What is dasBlog?

dasBlog is an ASP.NET blogging application. It runs on ASP.NET 2.0, (all versions 1.9x and prior run on ASP.NET 1.1 & ASP.NET 2.0) and is developed in C#. dasBlog is an evolution of the BlogX weblog engine initially written by Chris Anderson and contributors.

The initial conversion from Blogx was created by Clemens Vasters. dasBlog adds lots of additional features like Trackback, Pingback, Mail notifications, and over 50 other major modifications some unique only to dasBlog.

dasBlog does not require a database, so it is easier to get setup and cheaper to host. All that dasBlog requires is that you grant write access to a folder so that dasBlog can save your information.

I just installed Pretty Link Pro here at http://yourgotoguy.com. Read on to find out why…

I’m using this site as a micro-blog. It’s great for letting me make posts be as long as I want. I can also add Videos, pictures, audios, and update Twitter with a short url back to the microblog. Now sure there are services that do this, but they are all separate services: Qik and ScreenJelly for videos. Twitpic for pictures,VR+ for audio from my crackberry. Bit.ly, tinyurl.com, and su.pr for short urls.

The problems with all these separate sites are that 1) they are separate sites, and 2) I have no control over them.

Pretty Link Pro helps me turn this microblog into all of those. I can add my posts here, including video, pictures, audio, etc. Or I can just have longer posts like this one.

Pretty Link Pro will automatically update twitter with the title of this link, plus a tiny link hosted from my site. I own the link. I can see all the stats by logging into my blog and I won’t lose all of my links when all of those tiny url services bite the dust.

I just installed Pretty Links: a free WordPress Plugin that let’s you create short urls from your own WP site. Why would you want to do this? So that you don’t lose your links when URL shortening sites go under… and really, how many of them are there and how many have a plan to make money?

Bonus: Pretty Links has tracking, reporting, and an api.
